EdTek (Education Through Technology)
Digital Learning Empowers Families in Haiti
Fonkoze’s adult education programs strengthen livelihoods by building practical skills in a collaborative, empowering way. Courses equip participants to meet their basic needs while fostering leadership, confidence, and solidarity.
More than 40% of Fonkoze’s microcredit clients are illiterate when they join. Limited education can restrict their ability to grow sustainable businesses and recover from shocks such as natural disasters or socio-political unrest.
In response, Fonkoze launched EdTek in 2021 — a digital learning platform designed to make education more accessible and efficient through tablet-based training.
This is education that empowers. This is education that transforms lives.
EdTek delivers interactive modules that require no internet connection, literacy, or prior technology skills. Participants learn essential life and business skills without costly travel or time away from work and family.
Since launch, 10,786 individuals have been reached.
Through EdTek, participants:
- Grow their businesses
- Build leadership and solidarity
- Learn through collaborative, accessible teaching
The EdTek program expanded its reach in 2024
Learning Modules Include:
- Business Development
- Financial Literacy
- Interpersonal Relationships
- Sexual & Reproductive Health
- Disaster Risk Reduction
By combining financial literacy, health education, and community-building — led by Haitian women and grounded in local knowledge — EdTek helps families lift themselves out of poverty and build secure futures.
